Dancing neighbours
Dance of the generations through Chemnitz

Dance connects. The Capital of Culture’s Team Generation is initiating a programme that combines contemporary and urban dance with improvisation, and brings together young and old. Amateurs and non-amateurs alike will meet in a highly professional environment: Yoko Ando, an internationally acclaimed Japanese dancer and choreographer known for her work with the Forsythe Company, supports this dance project. She has been the artistic director of the dance program "Challenge of the Silver" for elderly people in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, since 2019. The project is produced by Kanagawa Arts Foundation. She has used this method to guide the project "Dancing Neighbors".
Dancing Neighbours will focus on intercultural exchange through non-verbal dialogue, which unfolds through communal movement, creative expression and energy. Dance courses for older participants will be held regularly, supplemented by workshops. For younger participants, there will be workshops fusing urban dance styles and contemporary dance.
The choreographies created will be presented at the opening of Chemnitz 2025 and at the TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ 2025 festival, among other occasions.
