
The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail will be officially opened from 11 to 13 April. The weekend offers a varied programme of art, culture and community experiences throughout the region
New art on the PURPLE PATH
New sculptures will be unveiled at nine locations and three exhibitions will open. The sculptures and their surroundings will become venues for music, art and culture. Over the course of the year, works by 90 artists will be on display at 70 locations.
Festivals in the region
Spring festivals, hands-on activities, guided tours, hikes, concerts, church services and exhibitions invite you to actively discover the PURPLE PATH and the region.
Hikes and bus tours
Under the title → Beyond local borders, the municipalities invite you to join them on hikes, tours and guided tours. There are four guided → bus tours from Flöha, Chemnitz and Zwickau, which can be booked for a day trip at the PURPLE PATH.
The PURPLE PATH is a joint effort by 38 partner municipalities, 90 artists, the Kulturkirche 2025 and numerous museums, galleries and cultural institutions.

How to get there
Buses and trains run more frequently on the opening weekend: the region's railway lines run every hour, as do bus routes 207 (Chemnitz-Marienberg-Olbernhau) and 210 (Chemnitz-Annaberg-Buchholz). The current timetable is available at vms.de.

Düsseldorf-based artist Corina Gertz photographs women around the world in unusual traditional costumes and costumes from behind. in 2023, she travelled to the Ore Mountains and for the first time photographed men, representatives of various mountain brotherhoods in richly decorated, traditional costumes.

The PURPLE PATH artworks in Amtsberg, Ehrenfriedersorf, Thalheim and Zwönitz become visible and audible in an immersive spatial sound installation. Animated images on a curved monitor are accompanied by specially composed sounds via 16 loudspeakers. Visit the installation on special occasions in the Buntspeicher and until 30 April 2025 at the Greifenstein Region Tourist Information Office.

The guided hike starts at 10.30 a.m. at Wildeck Castle in Zschopau and leads to Dittersdorfer Höhe, where the artwork "Zwei in ein ander Gewobene" by Olaf Holzapfel can be viewed. After a refreshing break, the route continues with the Amtsberg Hiking Club to Zschopau to the artwork "Fließgleichgewicht" by Michael Sailstorfer. The day ends with musical entertainment, food and drinks. There are exciting activities for children.

Guided bus tours are offered free of charge to discover the works at the PURPLE PATH. Participation is by appointment only. Individual stops are not possible. Please allow sufficient time and catering. All stops on the tours can also be found as routes on Google Maps - so you can explore the stations along the route on your own.

In 1991, the American composer and visual artist John Cage composed the Museumcircle , a unique exhibition format that can currently be marvelled at in the Museum of Industry. Over 100 objects from 52 museums and exhibition spaces from Chemnitz and the region were selected at random and arranged at random. Between nutcrackers, motorbikes and expressionist art, a space is created for free association about the cultural heritage of the region.
