Hans Peter Kuhn: Lights light
Chemnitz

Individual, identical LED light rods shine randomly in cool or warm white light on the rectangular-shaped support system of the steel and glass façade of the eins energie in sachsen administration building in Chemnitz. The changing patterns and grids of light seem to mean nothing. Rather, they evoke the pleasure of watching a constantly changing, secret notation following a light drawing as it emerges and fades away. The work "Lights light" by Hans Peter Kuhn, an artist who describes himself as a minimalist, symbolises the idea of a visual, architectural and spatial "concrete poetry". "Lights light" was awarded the winning design in an international competition for art in architecture.
Born in Kiel in 1952 and now living in Berlin and Kyoto/Japan, the film, sound and light artist, composer and sound engineer Hans Peter Kuhn has realised light art and stage works all over the world. his career began in 1975 at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in Berlin, where he worked as a sound engineer. He came to Karl-Marx-Stadt for the first time in 1976 with the legendary director Peter Stein: Maxim Gorky's "Summer Guests" was staged in what is now the Stadthalle. Kuhn also met theatre director Robert Wilson at the Schaubühne and worked with him on stage projects, films and installations. in 1985, he and partners founded Berlin's first private radio station, which later made headlines as RADIO 100. His programme "Die Audionauten" was popular with insiders in what was then West Berlin and was celebrated in the former GDR as an ear of the new music scene. In collaboration with Wilson, he created the installation "Memory/Loss" in 1993, for which they were awarded the "Golden Lion" at the 45th Venice Biennale.
