Maker Advent

Homemade is always the best! That's why Chemnitz 2025 is turning the Advent season into a hands-on time. At the Maker Advent, workshops, associations, artists and creative people in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region invite you to work, turn, make lace, print, bake, make hats and sing together.

Because the region has always been characterized by the spirit of do-it-yourself. The Maker Advent creates meeting places and brings people together. It is an invitation to everyone to discover new places and activities and to get creative together with other people.

During Advent 2024, Chemnitz 2025 once again hosted the Maker Advent, a hands-on format that showcases craft and creative offerings in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region and connects people through the theme of Christmas.

Whether traditional techniques such as woodturning, lace-making, baking or carving or modern approaches such as laser cutting, 3D printing, programming or soldering: the Maker Advent offered a diverse selection of workshops, open workshops and courses. The programme was complemented by drawing, printing and knitting courses, in which participants could design their own gifts or decorations.

The updated Maker Advent 2024 brochure was once again distributed in numerous institutions in Chemnitz and the region, for example in libraries, tourist information centres, adult education centres, town halls and cultural institutions, and was also available digitally via the Chemnitz 2025 channels.

In 2024, the Maker Advent also encouraged people to get active beyond the usual consumerism, realise their own ideas and discover new craft skills. The formats strengthened the local maker culture, promoted dialogue and a sense of community and made it possible to experience the cultural diversity and creative potential in the city and region.

The Maker Advent 2024 showed once again that Chemnitz is full of workshops, studios and committed players and is particularly open to creative interaction in the run-up to Christmas.
