Gottfried Silbermann (* 1683 – † 1753) was a craftsman of his time. Trained in Alsace, he returned to his native Saxony, where he designed and built organs and keyboard instruments in his Freiberg workshop. The quality of his work remains unrivalled to this day. His organs create a sense of identity, including in churches in the Capital of Culture region, and they attract people from all over the world. Again in 2025, the Gottfried-Silbermann-Gesellschaft will share old and new music and pass on historical craftsmanship with a wide range of programmes. With concerts in dialogue with the artworks of the PURPLE PATH, the participation of many hundreds of children in the European Organ Cities project ‘Here we are’ and the classical music festival ‘The Sound of Europe’, the Silbermann Days celebrate the unbroken radiance of the old instruments.
