An exhibition on the true cost of mining in the German /Czech Ore Mountains

The element uranium was discovered in Johanngeorgenstadt. Marie Curie found radioactivity in pitchblende from Jáchymov and discovered the elements radium and polonium. After that, the world was a different place. Also in the Ore Mountains. The region bears the eternal costs of the destruction. Evidence of forced labour, resettlement and environmental destruction remains. The artistic-scientific project made this evidence visible. It collected artefacts, evaluated archive material and relied on the experiences of those who lived on this land. A travelling exhibition in Jáchymov and Chemnitz combined the results of the research with new works of art that made previously invisible elements visible.
