Inside Outside Europe
One stage design, four theatres, four contemporary productions
One stage - one shared geographical space: Europe. Our continent and its inhabitants formed the focal point of a multi-layered theatre project. Artists from Romania, Georgia, Russia and Germany postulated their perspectives right in the centre of it. They talked about clowns and the nature of humour in Europe, reinterpreted the Medea story and explored the long, constricting shadow of the Nazi era over generations. They allowed voices from the Ore Mountains to speak about how people want to live together in the future and gave migrants space to position themselves on the current state of affairs.
Inside Outside Europe presented all the productions together for the first time in Chemnitz on 12 April 2025, accompanied by a supporting programme by Treibhaus e.V., and then travelled from city to city. In autumn 2025, the tetralogy was shown in Annaberg-Buchholz, Zwickau and Freiberg. The individual productions were also included in the repertoires of the theatres.
