Guest Concert by the Budapest Festival Orchestra

Iván Fischer and pianist and conductor Zoltán Kocsis, who died in 2016, fulfilled a dream when they founded the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 1983. For years, it has been counted among the ten best orchestras in the world. Its recordings have twice won the highly prestigious annual award from the British specialist magazine Gramophone, and the orchestra was once nominated for a Grammy. in 2022, Gramophone readers voted the Budapest Festival Orchestra "Orchestra of the Year". Iván Fischer has also been Music Director of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO) since August 2024. The orchestra made a guest appearance in Chemnitz with a varied programme of works by composers Fanny Hensel, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Richard Strauss.
