Bringing young and old onto the scene

A dimly lit room with a blue and purple light beam projecting through a rectangular window. The light emits a soft glow against the dark wall, creating a misty effect. The ceiling curves overhead with an industrial feel.

Cinemas, neighborhood hangouts, and public space turn into venues for films that depict different generations and timeless perspectives on their stories. Select films will be screened monthly at Kino Metropol and in public spaces, shedding light on topics such as societal cohesion and transformation. A highlight in autumn 2025 is the European Film Festival for Generations which will present intergenerational perspectives from across Europe.

Film festival of generations

The European Film Festival of Generations (02 October - 27 November 2025) shows current German and international feature films and documentaries about ageing and demographic change. The films show ageing not only as a loss, but as a phase of life with potential and resources for the individual and society. At the same time, they invite dialogue, as the stories tie in with everyday life. Chemnitz 2025 and its project partners are participating with a series of their own film screenings.
