In the 1980s, the Fritz Heckert area in Karl-Marx-Stadt was one of the largest new housing estates in the GDR and the third largest contiguous prefabricated housing estate in the country. It was planned and built from the mid-1970s onwards in order to remedy the housing shortage and create modern living conditions. The area consisted of standardised prefabricated buildings, but also offered new schools, kindergartens, shopping facilities and youth clubs such as the Würfel. Despite the functional architecture, an individual attitude to life developed - characterised by the neighbourhood, youth culture and everyday life in the large socialist housing estate.

On display are photos and recordings by the "Friends of the Würfel" - as well as exciting historical documents from the city archives. Forgotten and surprising facts about the youth club scene in the former GDR are revealed - and interesting facts about the architecture of the cube and its neighbourhood can also be discovered.
