Patricia Holland Moritz was born in 1967 in Karl-Marx-Stadt and worked as a bookseller and publishing manager in Leipzig, Paris and later Berlin. She studied North American Studies and has published several novels and crime thrillers. She has been managing director of the SPD parliamentary group in Berlin-Lichtenberg since 2021 and is involved in helping the homeless.

 

"Kaßbergen"
An industrial town at the foot of a mountain full of ore, in the mid-1970s: after her parents separate, little Ulrike moves in with her father in Kaßbergen, a neighbourhood above the city's chimneys where the air is better and people tell each other stories of a glorious past behind closed doors. Ulrike soon begins to break out of the confines and meets Gonzo, a punk who introduces her to the world of artists and writers, the non-conformists. When he is arrested by the Stasi, Ulrike is left to her own devices ...
