Workshop: Nettles - Crushing, Pitching & Carding

After the dry winter storage of the nettle straw, the workshop at Lehngericht Augustusburg invites you to internalise and try out the subtle but crucial differences in the first textile processing steps of bast plants. In order for the precious long fibres of nettles to be spun, the correct techniques and processes of breaking, swinging, beating and hackling are required. At the same time, it takes determination and skill to get the nettle back onto the spindle.

Tools and aids are available on site or can be made spontaneously in the wood workshop.
