The textile project by the three artists Pascale Goldenberg (D/F), Gabi Mett (D) and Judith Mundwiler (CH) is intended to point to the future and encourage us to look at the basic requirements for life as an individual and as a community from different perspectives, even in a global context, and to view traditions as a starting point for ideas for the future. What do people need to be able to live?

The four elements - fire, water, air and earth - are at the centre of everything we need for our existence. Sustainability and the careful use of resources are key concerns for the three artists when creating their artworks. They dye fabrics themselves, e.g. with earth, use waste products such as water filters or park ticking or address the issue of water pollution caused by environmental disasters.

At the same time, works using materials from the museum can also be seen. They focus on the textile traditions of the region and show creative possibilities for change and transformation, which are intended to lead to new ways of thinking and seeing. The result is an unusual combination of art and industrial culture that can be discovered on all five floors of the museum.

Both areas of the exhibition bring the idea of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025 to life in a microcosm: Chemnitz with the motto "C the Unseen" and the Capital of Culture region with the 38 partner municipalities on the "Purple Path" art and sculpture trail, which also includes the town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal.
