"The art of remaining many" is particularly challenged when democracy - the coexistence of the many - is threatened by autocratic forces. What role does art play in this historical moment? Can and should it convey freedom and a sense of community, heal existential fractures and develop positive visions of the future?

Do the arts even attract attention when politics becomes a performance for an audience weary of transformation? When negotiations about war and peace are presented as "great television"? How can the performing arts in particular encourage democratic practice and participation for social cohesion?

With lectures by: Philipp Ruch (Zentrum für Politische Schönheit), Sasha Marianna Salzmann (playwright), Simon Strauß (author, journalist). Followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Natascha Freundel (rbb).

The discussion will be recorded and broadcast in the well-known rbb format "Der zweite Gedanke" on radio3 and made available as a podcast.

Please note: on 22 May at 16:00, the film "The Art of Remaining Many" by Felix Meyer-Christian, commissioned by the Fonds Darstellende Künste, will be shown at the Metropol cinema as part of the "Forum for Art, Freedom and Democracy: Germany & Europe".

An event organised by Fonds Darstellende Künste in cooperation with European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH and radio3 des rbb.
