In this workshop, slate is processed using various techniques: From traditional chiselling to manual and digital drawing to modern laser engraving. You will experience how different tools and technologies come together to create a customised slate slab.
Workshop leader Pia Hackner is a trained carpenter and studied wood design, furniture and product design at the Schneeberg University of Applied Arts. She is active in the Erzgebirge maker network, founded the "NEUSCHNEE" project, opened a shop, offers workshops and loves working with people from a wide range of professional fields.
Uwe Bodenschatz has a degree in wood design and works as a researcher for the TU Dresden, among others. He is a passionate maker, is interested in modern manufacturing methods and uses 3D printers as naturally as a toothbrush. He is involved in KulturWerk Schneeberg e.V., among others.
The workshop is part of the event series "333 Hours Workshop of Wonders", a project within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament and by federal funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media as well as funds from the City of Chemnitz.
