The Dresden actor and cabaret artist Tom Pauls and the Stuttgart organist Vincent Bernhardt bring an extraordinary travel diary to life: with stories, music and humour, they embark on a fascinating and entertaining journey into the 18th century.

The Strasbourg organ builder Johann Andreas Silbermann (1712-1783), nephew of Freiberg organ builder Gottfried Silbermann and son of Gottfried's eldest brother Andreas from Strasbourg, documented not only organs and architecture, but also bizarre encounters, everyday observations and technical refinements on his journey through Saxony and Prussia in 1741. His "Anmerckungen (=curiousities) der Auf meiner Sächsischen Reyße gesehenen Merckwürdigkeiten" are a mixture of expertise, humour and zeitgeist.

The legendary Tom Pauls slips into the role of storyteller and takes his audience back to the 18th century. Captivating and exciting stories from the historical travel diary and the magnificent sound of Silbermann's instruments. It will be an evening full of European musical tradition, encounters and surprising insights into one of Europe's most important organ-building dynasties.

Johann Andreas Silbermann's travel diary was purchased at auction by the SLUB Dresden at Sotheby's in 2014, has been digitised and is available to the public.
