The double concert on two important European historical organs from the Silbermann family is one of the highlights of this year's Silbermann Days. Four concert organists meet on two organs from the Silbermann dynasty. While the organ by the Saxon organ builder Gottfried Silbermann from 1714 will be played in Freiberg Cathedral, the organ by Gottfried's nephew, the Alsatian organ builder Johann Andreas Silbermann, from 1741 will be heard in Strasbourg. Both instruments are astonishingly similar, as the two organ builders were inspired by each other in terms of sound and creativity at the time - this is how musical knowledge transfer worked in the Baroque era.

Both concerts will be broadcast to the other church via livestream. This will bring Germany and France closer together during the Capital of Culture year. The audience can look forward to a new, hybrid concert format!

Works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Louis Marchand, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Daniel Maurer will be performed.

The sound of Europe is now also the focus of the Silbermann Festival 2025. As a partner of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, the festival and the supporting programme of the Silbermann Festival 2025 explore a wide range of connections and celebrate Europe as a diverse cultural region and a place of exchange and togetherness.
