How does an artist begin a painting? Is spontaneous creativity possible?
Answers to these and other questions are provided by an artistic journey with Stefanie Neumann. Born in Schleswig-Holstein, she trained at the renowned Muthesius University in Kiel and at the Slade School of Fine Art in London. Scholarships for graphic art have taken her to Paris and she has also been honoured with prizes in Japan.
Course description:
The morning begins with playful drawing exercises to unleash creative impulses. No previous experience is necessary - all that is required is the courage to embark on a creative adventure. A selection of papers from different eras and with different qualities is available to create your first print papers. They will make their own rice glue and use a variety of art materials throughout the day.
After the lunch break, spray stencils are cut and sprayed areas are added to the pictures. Number and letter stencils are used, as well as the correct handling of spray cans - from the choice of caps to the ideal distance from the surface. Special markers such as the Squeezemaker from the graffiti sector expand the creative possibilities. You can also experiment with rollballs and wide tips. Those who want to discover new techniques can use roller stamps, Indian wooden stamps and old metal letters from letterpress printing to create individual accents.
At the end of the workshop, the works created will be presented. The participants will share personal discoveries and happy coincidences from the creative process in a group discussion.
The workshop is part of the event series "333 Stunden Werkstatt der Wunder", a project within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. This measure is co-financed by tax funds on the basis of the budget adopted by the Saxon State Parliament, by federal funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and by funds from the City of Chemnitz.
Recommended for people aged 14 and over.
