Location

Chemnitz, Museum Gunzenhauser

It's going to be glamorous at the Museum Gunzenhauser: On this evening, you are invited to a special guided tour with new, surprising views of art. The two well-known drag queens from Chemnitz and special guests from Leipzig will take you to the exhibition "European Realities". Participants can learn more about the queer subcultures and life of the LGBTQI+ community in the 1920s. What was life like in a time of upheaval and freedom and what dangers were queer people exposed to?

Afterwards, a drag show will be presented in the foyer of the museum. The performance was inspired by the sparkling nights and the roaring joie de vivre of the Roaring Twenties.

European Realities

The exhibition project European Realities at the Gunzenhauser Museum includes positions from various European countries, in particular from Northern, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. The diverse realist movements that were visible almost everywhere in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s are shown on an up to now unique scale. The exhibition tells of hunger and misery, of the modernisation of industry, reports on the economic upswing and cultural prosperity, of technical progress, the big city and nightlife, emancipation and diversity. The exhibition is part of the main programme of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
