Gottfried Silbermann was a "maker" of his time. Trained in Alsace, he returned to his native Saxony and used the resources of the region around Freiberg to create organs and keyboard instruments that are still unrivalled today.

In the year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, the Gottfried-Silbermann-Gesellschaft e.V. is exploring these European references under the festival motto "The Sound of Europe". Integrated into the Silbermann Days, the "PURPLE PATH Soundtrack - the Silbermann Summer at the PURPLE PATH" aims to add the power of music to the connections of the art trail.

On the weekend before the actual festival, six short twenty-minute concerts will draw attention to stations along the PURPLE PATH, to places within Silbermann's organ landscape.
With "Pipes and Keys", the focus will be on various wind instruments and the accordion as another wind-powered instrument, thus building a bridge to the organ as the main focus of the Silbermann Days. The variety of installations and sculptures at the PURPLE PATH will inspire a musical programme ranging from baroque to contemporary music.

Performers include pupils from music schools in the partner municipalities as well as professional musicians. Playing alongside each other, but also together at eye level, young and old want to make the PURPLE PATH resound.
