The Silbermann Museum in Frauenstein houses a very special instrument: it is a copy of the organ that Gottfried Silbermann made for Etzdorf in Striegistal in 1732/33. This original instrument travelled several routes to Bremen, where it now stands in the crypt of the cathedral. On the occasion of the restoration of this original by the Dresden organ builder Kristian Wegscheider in 1994, a replica was built, which can be admired in the Silbermann Museum (Markt 4, 09623 Frauenstein).
Organist Jan Katzschke will be playing the instrument, which is tuned to "almost perfect temperament", at the organ matinee in Frauenstein - the place that was home to Gottfried Silbermann. Katzschke performs internationally as an organist, harpsichordist and chamber musician. He has long been closely associated with Saxony and its organ scene in various capacities. He has a particular passion for music from the 16th to 18th centuries, which will also be emphasised at today's concert.
