Authoritarian, illiberal and repressive social concepts are gaining increasing support. In response, there are frequent warnings of a return of fascism. But where are its roots and where do its current manifestations lie? Which crises favour it? And what does anti-fascism mean in the here and now?
From 21 - 27 July, the "Arditi" theory festival will explore fascism in the past and present together with the Kantine. The programme will look at ways of preventing fascism and the prospects for forward-looking anti-fascism. Part of the varied programme includes the city tour "The Baseball Bat Years in Chemnitz" by Dominik Intelmann, employee of the NSU Documentation Centre. It visualises the often suppressed history of right-wing violence in Chemnitz since the 1990s and shows its connection to current social developments.
The Kantine is a theory festival that has been dedicated to the life and work of political thinkers and the history and theory of left-wing movements for a week every year since 2018. Together we understand, network and take action - against authoritarian developments and for a future of solidarity.
