Filmmakers Quỳnh Lê Nguyễn and Claudia Tuyết Scheffel meet when they are asked to direct a TV documentary series about anti-Asian racism. Lê grows up in the West and moves to the East, Claudia leaves the East to study in the West. How do the two of them perceive the Vietnamese community in the East and West - then vs. now? Are there tensions between the first and second generation? How can films deal with their parents' stories without appropriating or falsifying them? We are inviting you to an open discussion about the realities of the West in reunified Germany.
The essayistic short film "Jackfruit" by Quỳnh Lê Nguyễn and excerpts from "Lonig & Havendel" by Claudia Tuyết Scheffel will be shown.
The event at Asia Imbiss is a cooperation between the event series "Lonig & Havendel" (main programme) and the Chair of General Educational Science (Head: Prof. Dr Ulrike Deppe and Theo Döppers) at Chemnitz University of Technology. The discussion will be held in German.
The Imbiss will remain open during the event. Tram stop: Gutenbergstraße
