Wollgarage 2.0 builds on and expands the successful pilot project. The aim is to create a space – a garage – as a cultural meeting place centred on the theme of wool. Under the motto ‘Show me your work and I’ll show you mine’, an open exchange is fostered that promotes creative processes, craft techniques and cultural participation. Regular meetings to share ideas on working with wool – such as felting, knitting, crocheting, bobbin lace-making, hand-spinning and embroidery – help to strengthen the community. Wollgarage sees itself as a cultural platform and a ‘Hutzenstube’ (traditional craft room), drawing on the Erzgebirge tradition of communal handicrafts. It aims to promote exchange, mutual inspiration and craftsmanship, as well as to strengthen the cultural infrastructure in the local community through open, accessible activities.

NEW: two special themed evenings focusing on wool: Wool recycling and Felt meets art!

Microprojects

The micro-projects are intended to provide impetus for new cultural formats or encounters in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region. The broad urban and regional society is called upon to create forms of communication and social interaction. The funding programme has existed for several years and is part of the main programme of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
