The lecture is part of a series sponsored by the Federal Agency for Civic Education entitled "Talking to each other", in which we are exploring local history in Augustusburg under the question "What actually happened here between 1933-1945?". From April to October, further events will follow on topics such as the Gauführerschule, furniture storage, the death march through Erdmannsdorf as well as workshops and readings.

The Gauführerschule was opened on 24 June 1933 - after prisoners from the early concentration camp had carried out the conversions in the castle. Officials, members of the Hitler Youth, mayors, the "Theologensturm" and other groups received ideological training here. The Gauführerschule in Augustusburg was one of the most important institutions of its kind in Saxony; courses were held until 1945. The lecture will present the results of the research to date and discuss their significance today.
