The Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz start on 20 September under the motto "Home in the heart - diversity in Chemnitz" - a two-week series of events that has been setting an example for peaceful and good coexistence in our city every year since 1991.
The series of events will open on Saturday, 20 September at 12 noon with a colourful and intercultural stage programme, the Festival of Cultures, on the market square. In addition to information, there will also be artistic and sporting activities, culinary offerings and creative contributions.
The opening with the Festival of Cultures is also part of the "haamit heimaten" festival in Chemnitz, which is being organised by the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 from 18 to 21 September 2025. After all, Chemnitz is home to people from over 140 nations. The festival "haamit heimaten" is a contribution to the German-language decentralised festival "heimaten", initiated by the House of World Cultures in Berlin.
The subsequent series of events of the Intercultural Weeks invites you to engage with the topic of immigration and integration with theatre performances, film screenings, dance courses and concerts, country evenings, sporting events, readings and author talks, panel discussions, further education, lectures, workshops and information events on a wide range of topics as well as an exchange between religions and much more.
