Chemnitz dances (in)visibly - the diversity of dancers from Chemnitz should be seen!

Dance in Chemnitz

What connects retirement homes with nursery schools, church halls with market squares and private homes with nightclubs? There is dancing everywhere there and everywhere else. It is an integral part of our culture to move to music, usually together. It doesn't have to be complex and rehearsed, on the contrary - anyone can dance. From bobbing along for the first time as a toddler to a children's disco at Fasching (carnival), from the first partner dance lessons in adolescence to brushing up on waltz steps before a wedding, from dancing the night away with friends to swaying together at a family celebration - people can't keep their feet still when the right music is playing.

The right music can mean something different for everyone. A wide range of styles are represented in Chemnitz. The dance schools, some of which have been based in the city for decades, mainly teach classical partner dance, for example. Many people come into contact with the waltz, tango and cha cha cha at the latest before their youth initiation. However, there are also newly founded schools and courses for contemporary dance, hip hop, breakdancing, show dancing, Zumba and more.

Of course, dance doesn't always have to take place in the context of schools and courses. The great thing about it is that it is easily accessible to everyone. All you need is some music and yourself. So dance also becomes a form of self-expression and a way of expressing yourself. And how? Whether you want to dance alone at home to music from your mobile phone, with a partner to the music of the street musician on the corner, become a street artist yourself and do street dance with a group or meet up with lots of people for dance events. The latter were increasingly organised as part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025, for example on the theme of tango.
