Chemnitz is colourful. The kick-off event for this year's Intercultural Weeks, in collaboration with the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, demonstrates neighbourliness in action in the city. The Festival of Cultures invites visitors to find out about immigration at first hand, to engage in creative and sporting activities in the community, to listen and dance along, to discover the world through culinary delights and, last but not least, to get to know their neighbours - whether native Chemnitz residents or immigrants.

The two-week series of events will be opened with words of welcome from Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky and Superintendent Frank Manneschmidt.

The Chemnitz Peace Prize will also be awarded by the FUER CHEMNITZ e. V. citizens' association.

The Intercultural Weeks in Chemnitz are prepared and implemented by the Migration Officer in close cooperation with the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, the Migration Advisory Board, the Social Welfare Office, the association AGIUA e. V. Migration Social and Youth Work, the women's centre Lila Villa in the association akCente e. V. and with the support of numerous Chemnitz associations and initiatives. Chemnitz European Capital of Culture 2025 is participating in the opening programme as part of the “haamit heimaten” festival with the main projects European Workshop for Culture and Democracy and Living Neighbourhood.
