The Slovakian organist Ferjenčiková invites you on a fascinating musical journey through Europe with her "Grand Tour", which she begins with a work by the composer and organist Charles Burney. Burney travelled through Europe as a musician and kept a diary of the diverse musical life in the continent's major musical centres around 1770, including Dresden, where he inspected the Silbermann organ in the Frauenkirche and had it played for him. Today, the Frauenkirche houses an organ by organ builder Daniel Kern from Strasbourg, which continues the Silbermann tradition but also meets the demands of modern organ literature. This brings us full circle to the Silbermann family of organ builders, who were at home in the Ore Mountains and Alsace.

At the organ console, Ferjenčiková unfolds the rest of the programme like a three-part symphony: Berlioz - Mozart - Liszt. The selection of works reflects the spirit of European music history: Hector Berlioz also connected the sound worlds of France and Germany, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's works were celebrated from Vienna to Paris, and Franz Liszt toured throughout Europe with his virtuoso compositions. The concert ends with the sonata by the exceptionally talented Liszt pupil and composer Julius Reubke, who died young in Dresden-Pillnitz.

Zuzana Ferjenčiková comes to the Silbermann Days as an internationally sought-after concert organist and is also a juror at the XVII International Gottfried Silbermann Organ Competition. Her concert is entirely in keeping with the festival theme - "The Sound of Europe" - and promises an outstanding sound experience in Dresden's Frauenkirche.
