The film "Symphony of the Ursus Factory" is dedicated to the history of the former Ursus tractor factory in Warsaw and combines documentary material with artistic-performative elements to make the voices of former workers audible and visible. In impressive scenes, they reconstruct their memories of everyday working life, solidarity, political upheaval and the decline of the industry. The result is a poetic and political portrait of a place that once symbolised progress and collective identity. "Symphony" impressively shows how industrial transformation not only has a lasting impact on cities, but also on people's lives. The film by director Jasmina Wójcik will be shown in the original language with English subtitles.

Before the film screening, there will be a short guided tour of the special exhibition "Tales of Transformation" from 6:30 pm to 7 pm - with a thematic focus on the Polish city of Łódź, which, like Chemnitz, is strongly characterised by industrial upheaval. Rainer Mende from the Polish Institute Leipzig will give a short introduction to the film.

Tales of Transformation

In its major exhibition ‘Tales of Transformation’, the Industriemuseum Chemnitz compares the development of former industrial hotspots: Chemnitz, Gabrovo, Łódź, Manchester, Mulhouse and Tampere. The exhibition sheds light on the impulses for the future coming from these cities and what they can learn from each other: rapid growth and splendid wealth paired with precarious living conditions - later a radical collapse and the necessary reinvention. The exhibition is part of the main programme of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
