The ‘Climbing over Chemnitz’ project is developed by Le Plus Petit Cirque du Monde, with the support of Chemnitz 2025, European Capital of Culture, and in close cooperation with the Tanz | Moderne | Tanz festival (Germany) and the SE.S.TA choreographic development centre (Czech Republic). It will bring together European artists in order to create performances and site specific events inspired by the inhabitants and urban landscapes of Chemnitz and to build new collective acts for showcasing the city's urban and human heritage.
The idea of the project is to work with artists from France, Germany and Czech Republic to create new collective acts and highlight the urban and human heritage of towns that have much in common. Chemnitz (Germany) and Žďár nad Sázavou (Czech Republic) have a rich traditional heritage that was rapidly transformed into heavy industrial zones, which has had an impact on present-day society. The ‘Climbing over Chemnitz’ project aims to re-enchant collective memories and enable different communities and countries to meet, work and create together through the performative arts.
This project is a performance of modular circus and contemporary dance, combining shows and performances in cities, in collaboration with Czech, German and French artists and communities. It explores the role of artists in a world undergoing ecological, social, economic and cultural transition.
