Opening hours: Wednesday-Sunday: 9:00-12:00 and 13:00-17:00.

Parallel to the Chemnitz exhibition, the Coin Museum in Jáchymov is showing the ExtractiveZones.eu web archive in a separate room.

In the 20th century, Jáchymov in the Bohemian Ore Mountains became the scene of the atomic age: Marie Curie discovered radioactivity using uranium ore from here. Thousands of political prisoners later worked in the uranium mines for Stalin's atomic bomb programme. The place became the "Hell of Jáchymov".

This history comes to life in the historical Coin Museum: The digitally experienceable web archive extractivezones.eu (online from 7 November 2025) shows the centuries-long history of extractivism among the museum's original mining artefacts. Visitors can experience how a small town in the Ore Mountains helped determine the fate of the world.
