Europe Sounds - Music connects Europe in Chemnitz

From 7 to 9 May 2025, Neumarkt in Chemnitz city centre will be transformed into a stage for European diversity.

As part of the "Europe Sounds" concert series, international artists will be performing from 7 to 9 May in collaboration with Chemnitz's partner cities, European Capitals of Culture and embassies to enrich the cultural programme of Europe Week. The stage programme on the Neumarkt offers a varied mix of traditional and modern dance, choirs and bands. It invites you to experience the musical diversity of Europe and familiarise yourself with European traditions.

On 7 May 2025 from 5 pm, artists from Kosovo, Chemnitz, Andalusia (Spain), Occitania (France) and Timișoara (Romania) will perform. The event will be hosted by Chemnitz radio presenter Conny Hartmann. From 11 am, food and beverages as well as a merchandise and an information stand will also be available on Neumarkt.

Timetable

17:00 SHOTA (Kosovo)
The Shota ensemble stands for Albanian dance and music culture. As cultural ambassadors of the Republic of Kosovo, they inspire with tradition, pride and lively folk art.

17:50 Marco Vargas and Alya Al-Kanani (Spain)
The duo brings modern flamenco from Andalusia to the stage with attitude. Their piece "Ver/suchung" recently impressed audiences at the Flamenco Museum in Seville.

18:50 Unity
The international choir from Chemnitz, which has been singing with voices from all over the world since 2019, true to the motto: music unites - across languages and cultures.

19:50 La Marmaille (France)
The six-piece fanfare band from Occitania combines jazz, rock and soul. 

21:10 Petre Ionutescu aka Trompetre (Romania)
Petre Ionuțescu is a trumpeter and composer from Timișoara who experiments with jazz, ambience and classical music. He plays solo and collaboratively and is the founder of the Romanian Brass Society.
