The individual components are first created in the outdoor workshop, which are then assembled into a walk-in cave in the hall of the Lehngericht. Throughout the summer, this special space is open to all Augustusburg residents young and old - for exhibitions, cinema and a variety of activities.

EL GROTTO

Grotto, vault, cave - these are all names for an underground cavity. Such spaces stimulate the imagination and offer space for memories, secrets and new stories. Inspired by the history of mining in this region, EL GROTTO is a place of remembrance and the future - a space that is brought to life by and with the local people. An exhibition of dioramas - lovingly designed miniature landscapes, similar to model railways - will be presented at the official opening of the cave on 10 July from 4 pm. All interested parties are cordially invited to participate in the construction of these small worlds.

The construction of the cave and the dioramas will take place in front of the Lehngericht. The exhibition itself will be on display in the hall of the Lehngericht. Participation is free of charge and open to all age groups!

The project will be accompanied by Verena Seibt (*1980, lives and works in Munich) and Georg Scherlin (*1985, lives and works in Berlin). Both have already realised the clay workshop and exhibition in Augustusburg last year with their Claytime project and are now returning with another participatory project.

The EL GROTTO project is being realised as part of the Augustusburg town centre development fund. The fund is financed by the town of Augustusburg and the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building as part of the "Sustainable inner cities and centres" programme.

Makerhubs

Nine Makerhubs in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region will become places where people can learn from each other and create something new together. They are also places where designers, craftspeople, entrepreneurs, the next generation of skilled workers and makers from all over the world come together. Visitors and creative tourists can experience regional culture and traditions at workshops. The Makerhubs are part of the Makers, Business & Arts programme. This main project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 is all about promoting creative tourism offerings and cross-sector collaboration between industry and creative professionals. The project is being implemented by the Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH in cooperation with the Landesverband der Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft Sachsen e. V.
