Depot concert: "Vexations" by Eric Satie

The French composer and musician Erik Satie (1866-1925) influenced the new music of the 20th century like no other. He probably composed ‘Vexations’, the 840 repetitions of a piano piece, in 1893/94. The composition for piano was premiered by John Cage in September 1963 and is still regarded today as a predecessor of minimalism and ‘machine music’. 
The participating pianists have been invited by the Chemnitz musician and performance artist Andreas Winkler. Winkler already initiated the Chemnitz ‘premiere’ of ‘Vexations’ in the early 1990s to mark the opening of the underground car park at the Markthalle. Emilio Mickelthwate, Torsten Reiz, Michiko Saiki, Mrika Sefa and Emi Suzuki, who come from Japan, Portugal and Germany and live in Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig, will be performing. 
Satie's ‘Torments’ can be heard at the end of the exhibition ‘John Cage: Museumcircle’ in the depot of the Chemnitz Industrial Museum. Visitors to the event can come and go as they please during the performance period of approx. 14 hours and can visit and view the Industrial Museum's collection in its depot during the concert.
