TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ - Kaori Ito (JP): WARÉ MONO

Between theatre, breakdance and dance, a moving ritual of two bodies unfolds - sometimes combative, sometimes tender. Inspired by Kintsugi, they heal a broken marionette and ask: can childhood wounds be refined and become valuable?

Somewhere between gestural theatre, breakdance, and contemporary dance, the duo engages in a battle— sometimes wild, sometimes tender. As animals—monsters or twins— they gradually invent a ritual that unites them. They repair a broken marionette, a remnant of a wounded childhood, and are inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, in which broken objects are reassembled with gold, leaving the cracks visible, almost magnifying them. Is this type of repair also possible for wounds from childhood? Can we refine these wounds to make them valuable? Kaori Ito, artistic director of the Théâtre Jeune Public (TJP) at the Centre Dramatique National Strasbourg, has created this fascinating choreography for children aged 6 and over.
