Location

Chemnitz, puppet theatre in the Spinnbau

Countless garage complexes, individual garages as well as smaller and larger courtyards, characterise a not insignificant part of the cityscape in Chemnitz. Built during the GDR era or collectively in the past, they still bear witness to the personal memories and lives of many Chemnitz residents. But how does the next generation - the daughters and granddaughters - look at this legacy of their parents and grandparents? How do they use and upcycle these spaces? And what happens to the old stories, experiences and things?

They are dismantled and reassembled in a theatrical wonder box, filled with ideas and visions of the future. But be careful: some walls cannot simply be removed, otherwise everything will collapse. - How does change work and where does the need for continuity go? Based on research and interviews with garage owners from Chemnitz, Julia Brettschneider and her ensemble work with the means of material theatre, text fragments and performative and musical elements, reassembling them and allowing them to flow together.

The production by the Figurentheater Chemnitz will run open air for a few dates from August and move on to the Spinnbau from autumn 2025. Accompanying formats complement these first performances and invite people to listen and exchange ideas together.
