About the festival:

Cinemas, neighbourhood centres and other public facilities in the cultural capital region and Chemnitz will become screening venues for the 16th European Film Festival of Generations. The films convey differentiated images of old age, showing age as a dynamic developmental phase of life with diverse potential and resources for the individual and for society. In other words, the films should also show the opportunities and possibilities, gains and freedoms of ageing and not just as a loss and illness or a burden on society. The films should also convey content that invites follow-up communication and dialogue with the audience. In other words, the stories, images, values and characters should offer the possibility of being transferable to the viewer's world. From the big screen down to the real conditions on site, in the community, in my home, in my world.

This is why the audience discussions following the film screenings are a central part of the festival concept. These are led by experts from the fields of practice, science, local authorities and politics. The film serves as a medium, so to speak, as a means of communication to start a conversation and raise questions: About our own and our common, present and future age(s). It is intended to raise awareness of demographic change and the importance of active and healthy ageing. It is intended to promote dialogue between the generations as well as the willingness for civic engagement. Chemnitz 2025's participation in the 16th European Film Festival of Generations, which is taking place nationwide, marks the culmination of the monthly film series Focus 2025: Generations.
