Europe Week
Thinking European and celebrating Europe

Europe is celebrated for five days, together, lively and with many perspectives. The Europe Week offers a full programme: there will be dancing and discussion, listening and networking. Music, theatre and debate formats invite you to join in, exhibitions shed light on the European dimension of Chemnitz's history and artistic contributions show how Europe comes together in Chemnitz.
When? 6 to 10 May 2025
Where? Chemnitz | various locations
The sound of Europe
From Wednesday to Friday, Europe Sounds will bring musicians from all over Europe to the stage in Chemnitz city centre (Neumarkt, 5-10 pm). On Saturday, there will be an unplugged concert at the European Acoustic Festival in the courtyard of the Chemnitz Weltecho (14:00-22:00), before things get groovy between the rows of garages in the evening when DJ Vika goes #3000Garagen: Europe's oldest DJ comes to Chemnitz (Garagenhof Turnstr., 19:00-23:30).

Dialogue and politics
On 7 May, a panel discussion on the EU will take place in the Hartmannfabrik with, among others, the former President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. Europe Direct provides information about the European Union at Neumarkt. Dialogue goes far beyond politics: the Open Community Kitchen - Czech Edition invites you to get into conversation about culinary delights. On 10 May 2025, committed Chemnitz residents will read from sunrise to sunset at Das demokratische Chemnitz liest gegen das Vergessen. In the late evening (10 May, 21:15), a reading with Dutch author Jessica Durlacher will take place under the motto "Das demokratische Chemnitz liest GOES EUROPE".

Exhibitions, theatre & performance
Whether industrial or art history: Europe plays a central role. This becomes clear in European Realities (Gunzenhauser Museum), an art exhibition on European realism movements of the 1920s and 30s. Tales of Transformation (Chemnitz Industrial Museum) focuses on the development processes of Chemnitz, Gabrovo, Łódź, Manchester, Mulhouse and Tampere from the 19th century to the present day. The #3000Garages exhibition can be seen in the Garage Campus from 9 May. The international theatre festival NONSTOP Europa! celebrates European diversity on stage. The Hungarian-Romanian-German production Die schöne Susanne premieres at the Fritz Theatre in Chemnitz.
