Contemporary Art in Churches

Interventions on the Passion

from 5. March until 20. April

During Passiontide, between 5 March and 20 April, installations of interventions on the Passion will be presented in nine churches in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture Region. In the process, contemporary art will enter into a dialogue with the architecture and iconography of the churches. The campaign is modelled on the traditional covering of the altar in the weeks leading up to Easter.

Bonhoeffer in Harlem

John Young

The exhibition Bonhoeffer in Harlem by Sino-Australian artist John Young explores Dietrich Bonhoeffer's life and work. The Protestant pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer had an impact on the church and society like almost no other theologian of the 20th century. The exhibition is primarily inspired by his time in New York's Harlem neighbourhood.
