Simone has been an enthusiastic volunteer since August 2024. For her, the Capital of Culture year means much more than just events - it is a project close to her heart that connects people and moves Chemnitz.
On 9 October 2025, the motto at the Chemnitz Garage Campus was: "Unbeatable together!" - under this motto, the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 team invited all volunteers to the big thank-you event.
The joy and warmth of the reunion was palpable as soon as you arrived. Many familiar faces, many shared memories - we volunteers have long since become one big community. Everywhere we went, we laughed, talked and reminisced about numerous assignments.
The organisers showed us their appreciation in many different ways. The speech by Lord Mayor Sven Schulze was particularly impressive as he thanked us for the countless hours of voluntary work that we contributed to the Capital of Culture year. His words were warm and sincere - and when he later poured the wine in person, it was a wonderful moment of closeness and togetherness.
A highlight of the evening was the rousing performance by the "Dancing Neighbours". Their energetic choreography got the room moving - and many of us were immediately inspired to join in. Culinary delights also left nothing to be desired: delicious food, refreshing drinks and plenty of opportunities to socialise.
The atmosphere was exuberant, but also characterised by thoughtfulness. In many conversations, we looked back on the past months - on joint activities, challenges and moving encounters. And the question came up again and again: What will happen in 2026?
We are full of hope and curiosity about what lies ahead. Because one thing is certain: the Capital of Culture will not end in 2025 - it will live on in our hearts and in our commitment to Chemnitz.
An evening full of appreciation, community and gratitude - and a wonderful end to a year that has shaped us all.
