In the volunteer editorial team, Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.

Danny is 44 years young and was born and grew up in Karl-Marx-Stadt. He emigrated "briefly" to the east of Mallorca from 2006-2007. But then he was drawn back home to Chemnitz. He has been working as a volunteer since April 2024, including at the Hat Festival, the Tietz fairground and the Kosmos Festival.

The Fire Cup is an event that brings together young, dedicated talents from all over Europe - an international competition in speed, skill and teamwork, which took place in Chemnitz this year. We volunteers had the task of providing information about current events taking place in the Capital of Culture and answering questions about them. A large information pavilion, which offered plenty of space for various activities, was our workplace for the day. Children and adults alike were able to build a dream castle with wooden blocks or a giant tower, most of which collapsed noisily. New today was LimoPong. Imagine an undersized table tennis table with paper cups draped on both sides, in the position of bowling pins. Originally designed as a drinking game, we played the cultural capital variant. This meant that as soon as a participant hit one of the numbered cups with their ping-pong ball, they were asked a randomised question about the Capital of Culture or general questions about Chemnitz. If the participant answered the question correctly, the cup hit by the opponent was removed; if the answer was wrong, the cup was left standing and the game continued unchanged.

It was brilliant that as a volunteer I was able to help with the correct answer to a wrongly answered question about the Capital of Culture, the Purple Path, the project Dancing Neighbours or how many Capitals of Culture there currently are.

Simply brilliant! And it was great fun. The guests were rewarded with a drink, a fruit bar or a small bottle of sun cream.

16.00 o'clock the mission was over. The pavilion was quickly dismantled, the beach flags taken down and the sunloungers folded up.
