Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.

Bodo is 66 years old and lives in Neukirchen in the Ore Mountains. The former group and project leader has been a volunteer from the very beginning and has been involved with Chemnitz 2025 for several years. He uses his organisational expertise in the volunteer editorial team and takes care of archiving the texts.

On April 8, 2025, I had the opportunity to take part in a first aid refresher course for volunteers in the Capital of Culture Chemnitz on Hartmannstraße - a chance to brush up on life-saving skills.

I was surprised at how much knowledge had been lost over the years. Being able to administer first aid is a life-saving skill and its importance should never be underestimated.

Competent training by Johanniter

Our first aid trainer, Ms. Köhler, inspired us with her passion and expertise.  She explained key topics in an understandable and practical way.

With her patient and understandable manner, she guided us through important topics such as
✔ Stable lateral position

✔ Behaviour in shock situations

✔  Using a defibrillator

✔ Applying bandages correctly

Each of us was impressed and felt we were in good hands.  The course was tightly planned so that the time flew by.  What became particularly clear to me: Everyone should take advantage of this opportunity.  Providing first aid is not always easy, but it could be crucial one day - perhaps even for the life of a loved one.   And who knows, you might find yourself in a situation where you need help.

We would like to thank Ms. Köhler and the Johanniter for the training that helped us to deepen our understanding of first aid.  Would you like to refresh your knowledge of first aid?  Find out about the next course dates in the volunteer database or on the provider's website.
