In the volunteer editorial team, Volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.
Adelheid used to work as an accountant and has been retired for several years. She lives in the Yorck area of Chemnitz, works as a volunteer for the European Capital of Culture and is happy to share her experiences.
This is not a report about a volunteer assignment, but about a hiking day that I organised for the "Dancing Neighbours" soul group. It has already become a wonderful tradition for us to lace up our hiking boots and recharge our batteries together in the great outdoors. The city railway took us to Braunsdorf/Lichtenwalde and we hiked through the forest to the beautiful "Drillichblick" and the Waldkirche, where we took a short break. Then we continued along the Zschopau river, across the "Wolfsschlucht" gorge, along the signposted circular hiking trail and back to Braunsdorf. The day ended with delicious food, cool drinks and long conversations in the pub, popularly known as "Emil", at Braunsdorf railway station.
We are already looking forward to our next hike together.
