In the volunteer editorial team, volunteers for Chemnitz 2025 publish reports on their experiences, assignments and adventures around the European Capital of Culture.
Maria has been working as a volunteer for the European Capital of Culture since 2023. Maria loves Chemnitz and finds it exciting to find out what the motto "see the unseen" is all about.
On Saturday 30 August, the motto "See the unseen" of the European Capital of Culture was confirmed once again. On this beautiful sunny day, we once again saw something that had previously been invisible, even though a number of projects had already painted the stairs and walls of the city in recent years.
Today, however, the children of Chemnitz even painted a street next to the Hartmannfabrik in bright colours. Within a few hours, the grey colour of the asphalt has changed and become something magical.
But that was not all. The "Kamenica Musica" association organised a musical trail that included modern and traditional music and dance styles. On this day, the dance schools from Chemnitz, street dance groups from the Czech Republic, a group from the Johannes Kepler Grammar School in Chemnitz and a group from Liechtenstein took centre stage. The senior citizens taking part in the "Dancing Neighbours" project, one of the main projects of the European Capital of Culture, which aims to involve Chemnitz residents over the age of 60, also performed.
Never before have so many people been involved. In fact, people of all ages and around 100 dancers took part.
It was my job, together with my colleagues Christine, Jana, Julia, Jasmine, Konstanze, Diana and Madeleine, to set up the stands and provide advice and support to the participants and artists. It was very pleasant to work to beautiful music and watch the children create little masterpieces.
