From 6 to 9 October, 25 volunteer coordinators from current, former and future European Capitals of Culture met in Chemnitz. They all accepted the invitation from Chemnitz 2025 and the European Volunteer Coordinators Network (EVCN) to create guidelines for the development and implementation of volunteer programmes within the future European Capitals of Culture. The brochure will be passed on to the new Capitals of Culture on an ongoing basis via the EVCN and all active members.

During the visit, the focus was on personal exchange, personal experiences and networking: In workshops, the representatives from Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Portugal, Latvia, France, the Czech Republic and Germany discussed topics such as the development of a volunteer database, equipment for volunteers and concepts for support and cooperation with local partners. The coordinators were supported by volunteers from the respective cultural capitals, who have extensive practical expertise from their numerous assignments.

Over 1,200 volunteers are involved in the Chemnitz 2025 volunteer programme. They are involved in individual events and answer questions about the programme. Over 40,000 hours have been spent on the programme so far.
