The historic journeyman's walk "Walz" may be old, but it is still young every year: it is an intangible cultural heritage in Germany. Every year, around 450 journeymen experience the country, the people and their profession in a very special way. In 2025, Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region will be working and building for charitable projects and with the support of regional associations.

Since mid-June, the construction site summer of travelling journeymen, journeywomen and craftspeople has been taking place at various locations in the Capital of Culture region. Until September, a total of eight charitable projects are being will be supported by craftsmen and -women.

An insight into two construction sites

In Hohndorf, a new roof is being put on a building planned as a local history museum and social centre, which once housed the municipal administration, with the support of the Wandergesell:innen.
However, the size of the construction site has increased, so the travelling companions are looking forward to helping hands. The address of the building site is Rödlitzer Straße 84, 09394 Hohndorf.

The companions are also working with the ASB residential group on Rembrandtstraße in Chemnitz . Here, with the direct cooperation of the residents of a wheelchair

Other construction sites are located in the Botanical Garden, in Limbach-Oberfrohna, in Chemnitz Heinersdorf, in the Oelsnitz Mining Museum and in Zwickau in September

In addition to the artisanal perspective, social issues are also highlighted and discussed together with local people and visitors in a tradition of cosmopolitanism through workshops and lectures.
If you would like to meet the socialites, all you have to do is wander through the Capital of Culture region with your eyes wide open. After work, the cultural offerings of other people in the Capital of Culture year are a great way to broaden your own horizons.
