On 9 October 2025, the thank-you party for the volunteers of the Capital of Culture year took place at the Chemnitz Garage Campus. It honoured the commitment of the volunteers who have made a significant contribution to the implementation of Chemnitz 2025 since the start of the 2023 programme.

Around 1,200 volunteers have been involved so far. They have supported more than 100 projects, been involved in around 9,000 assignments and volunteered a total of over 40,000 hours. The participants come from Chemnitz, the region and other cities and countries in Europe.

As the volunteers were the stars of the evening, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, the management and employees of the gGmbH provided active support at the entrance, cloakroom and bar. Many of the workshops on offer were realised by volunteers themselves.

The evening's programme included reviews of the Capital of Culture year to date, workshops, a record picnic on a historic tram, music and joint discussions.

In his welcoming address, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze thanked all the volunteers for their commitment and emphasised the importance of volunteering for the city of Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture programme. Andrea Pier, Commercial Director, and Stefan Schmidtke, Programme Director of Chemnitz 2025, also paid tribute to the work of the volunteers and their contribution to the success of numerous projects.

The Chemnitz 2025 volunteer programme offers people from different age groups and backgrounds the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the Capital of Culture year. It stands for openness, diversity and social cohesion.

The event was realised with the support of premium sponsor Volkswagen Group.
