Moving boxes tell stories. They bear traces of movement, memory and change. The Moving Boxes exhibition at the Gunzenhauser Museum showcases these cardboard carriers of memory. People from Chemnitz can become part of the exhibition themselves with their old boxes. We are looking for used moving boxes, which can be handed in at the Gunzenhauser Museum between 7 and 14 November 2025, from 2 to 5 pm. All boxes submitted will be registered in a public archive and then become part of the artistic installation that will be on display on the ground floor of the museum.
The special thing about the installation is that visitors are invited to rearrange the boxes again and again. This creates a living work of art that is constantly changing.
The installation is part of the multi-part project The Questions by the artist collective Quarantine from Manchester. For four weeks in November, the project invites encounters between generations. Talks, performances and an exhibition will take place in the Gunzenhauser Museum and at three locations in Chemnitz City Library. The dialogue between artists from Manchester and Chemnitz will focus on the question of what belonging means today.
Anyone wishing to contribute their boxes is asked to register in advance at leo@qtine.com .
