The PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail was officially opened with a ceremony in Flöha on 11 April. This was followed by a three-day festival with new sculptures, exhibitions, art tours, numerous events and many enthusiastic visitors throughout the entire Capital of Culture region.
With contemporary art in public spaces, this art trail creates a link between the 38 municipalities of the Capital of Culture Region and the city of Chemnitz. The PURPLE PATH is one of the main projects for Chemnitz 2025 and is designed to be permanent. This unique exhibition will develop into a new tourist attraction in the region over the coming years.
The opening weekend showed just how much interest there already is. Several thousand visitors attended eight inaugurations of new artworks by Jana Gunstheimer, Jeffrey James, Via Lewandowsky and Maruša Sagadin, among others, as well as three exhibition openings. They took part in bus trips, hikes and cycle tours along the PURPLE PATH and finished off with a concert by Till Brönner together with Günter "Baby" Sommer and Dieter Ilg in the packed town hall in Oelsnitz. Many local authorities have put on a special programme for the opening weekend.
Those interested can also discover the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail on bus tours as part of the Chemnitz Museum Night on 10 May. The tours start at 10 am. A Museum Night ticket is required to join the tour. Reservations can already be made on the Chemnitz Museum Night booking website: museumsnacht.lineupr.com/chemnitz
Over the course of the Capital of Culture year, the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail will grow to include further works of art.
